Hello Everyone, it has been some time since my last blog post so I thought it was a fitting time to write an update. I am currently up Houghton, MI, in the Keweenaw Peninsula, where the leaves on the trees are have turned beautifully and more ready to turn any day. Today, I really thought it looked like snow but not yet. We are experiencing the drop in temperature and it is only a matter of time before the beautiful snow begins to fall. Last year seemed to pass in a flash and I learned so much about community life, prayer, and ministry on mission. Serving at St. Albert the Great University parish had a learning curve which I think I was finally catching up by the end of the year. There is so much happening in campus ministry and parish life and so many students which is amazing to see. And at St. Anne's parish, where our convent is, there are so many wonderful families. I ended the year thinking how blessed we are in the number of families and little ones running around as well as all our parishioners. There also was a push to try to integrate more opportunities between St. Al's and St. Anne's. I saw my first Northern Lights! Amazing! In community life I learned there is a lot to communication and perceptions. We all have room to grow and as we allow our amazing God to work in our lives, we will keep growing.

So now lets fast forward to year two on mission. This year I am living with Sister Linda and Sister Maria Goretti. Sister Linda works with the homebound and nursing homes, as well as the St. Anne's families. Sister Maria Goretti works as a classroom aide and sub at Sacred Heart Catholic School. All of us at times are together at St. Al's and St. Anne's events. This year I am continuing my role as a pastoral associate and service coordinator at St. Al's. I have also added on a new role of teaching classes. Currently I am leading students and parishioners through the bible timeline series by Ascension press. It has been going well which I am excited about. I also realized how much information you can retain when you watch a video 4 times and discuss the information 3 times each week. I do think it is a true blessing. We have started a St. Vincent de Paul college conference at St. Al's. This is a work in progress as we slowly build this conference at the college level. We are part of breaking new ground with this so just taking a step at a time. I have some great students in leadership and it is wonderful to be in a place to be walking with students and guiding students in a campus minister/pastoral role with them. St. Al's is really a college parish set up to give students experience in different roles with the hope that once they graduate, that they will become involved in their parish. There is a spirit at St. Al's that is hard to explain but you can really see how God is at work. We have six FOCUS Missionaries and a wonderful staff that makes everything work at the parish. We have so many students who come to St. Al's events who are not Catholic and even attend Mass. There is a hunger and thirst and FOCUS has done a wonderful job with engaging students so they in turn engage others and help to build them up. You can really see the ripple effect. At St. Anne's parish I also experience this feeling of God being at work. St. Anne's has become a place where families meet other families and support one another. There are family events monthly, organized by families and there are new opportunities growing this year as well. The Sisters and I made it through the beginning weeks of school which can be long days but very fulfilling. We have had fun exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula and even had a chance to go to Mass at Holy Redeemer in Eagle Harbor, which is the oldest church in the U.P. built in 1852 under the direction of Venerable Bishop Frederic Baraga. It was such an interesting experience. You could sense the history and imagine the stories that came from this place through all the years. We have enjoyed picnics and going out with students. Last week we experienced our first harvest festival in Houghton. Unfortunately, the Michigan Tech Cider Press broke within the first hour but we were able to sample some fresh cider. But we went on a hay ride. It was also great to run into different people as we walked around. There is something about simply being out together in public that opens up opportunities for conversations to happen. We are currently on a short Fall break but then next weekend is our big Fall Retreat. There is this great camp called Bay Cliff. They do wonderful work for handicap campers in the summer. But out of season they rent to groups like ours. But it is not just Michigan Tech. We are joined by students from Northern and LSSU. So it is a big student retreat. Last year was my first Fr. Ben (pastor) hiking during the day experience. It was definitely an adventure. I of course knew it would be fun after going on the night hike with over 100 students in the dark last year and the pesto hike. A hike up a mountain where then we boiled pots of water to make pasta and added the pesto. Yup, pesto pasta on top of a mountain. How great! Updates on those in formation. Sister Michelle Marie professed her First Vows this past June 2025. Also, Sister Rose entered the Novitiate. Exciting times in our formation. And I renewed my vows as well as Sister Concepcion as we continue to say Yes to God and to our community. Alright, I hope this gave a bit of an overview of what I am up to. Thank you all for joining me and my community on this journey. My goal is to continue this blog and not to be MIA like last year. There are exciting events and adventures to come so look for the updates. To see updated Pics, go to www.facebook.com/catherine.logan.121 Check out my July 2025 interview with Fr.
